What's avidya?
Avidya is a Sanskrit word meaning ‘ignorance.’ At its core, Avidya Running is an exploration into the dark places of our own ignorance using endurance running as our light. If we confuse mundane life to be the only reality, we remain ignorant of a truer reality.
We believe our ignorance is the root of our suffering. We willingly challenge ourselves to explore concepts like egos, attachments, aversions, and our identities on the trail.
Avidya Running hosts trail and ultra races with the goal of creating the opportunity for this exploration. Avidya Coaching is the outstretched hand to help you get there.
Why coach with us?
The right coach is huge. You need someone that you can trust, communicate with, rely on, and that brings the right mixture of motivation and wisdom to your training. A good coach guides confidently, listens carefully, and has time to meet you where you are.

Coach Julie has decades of experience racing all over the U.S. and Europe, years of experience coaching every level of athlete, and her philosophy is something you won't find repeated with other coaches.

Communication - We coach five days a week to make sure we are always on the same page, working through training in real time, and available. This schedule greatly increases accountability.

Cutting Edge Training - The science of ultra is always evolving and the sport is exploding, which means new studies and training philosophies are evolving too. Don't coach with someone who was certified once and repeated themselves since; coach with someone who stays up-to-date with new data and research. Our philosophy is largely based on Koop's theory of relative perceived effort (RPE) to increase your capacity for work, which allows you to run at your highest potential injury-free.

Trust - We've been there. We've been in the dark places, the long races, the broken times. Coach with someone you can relate to, or who can relate to you, that can effectively guide you to the finish line. Data is key, and data is a wonderful tool, but running ultras is not just numbers. There are many factors, secrets, sets of information, strategies and considerations to go into planning your ultra - coach with someone who knows what to do.
